About

Tapley's Mercantile & Antiques opened in February 2020 in the old Andy's IGA grocery at Waters Avenue and Montgomery Cross Road. The supermarket's butcher blocks, in use since the 1970s, are still scattered through the bright, roomy store as displays.

Robert and Brenda Anderson run it as a family business, named for Robert's grandmother Nora Tapley, a nurse who lived to 101. More than 50 vendors sell antiques, furniture, décor and jewelry, and the "mercantile" side includes meat seasonings and candles (including one named for Nora and her husband Otis). Parking is easy, and it's a short drive from Picker Joe's.

Tips

  • About 6 miles from downtown Savannah in a straight line, so plan it as a drive.
  • Independent shops keep their own hours and some close early in the week: call ahead before a special trip.
