About

The Savannah African Art Museum introduces visitors to the art and cultures of West and Central Africa. Its collection of more than 1,000 objects, mostly ceremonial and spiritual pieces from the 19th and 20th centuries in wood, metal, ceramic, glass and fiber, comes from about 22 countries and 130 cultures, from Guinea in the west to Tanzania in the east.

The collection was built over more than 30 years by Savannah businessman and philanthropist Don Kole. The museum opened in 2016–17 in a house on East 34th Street, then moved to this larger 6,000-square-foot home at 201 E. 37th Street, built in 1922 and adapted for the museum by Felder & Associates.

Every visit is a guided tour, and admission is free. It sits in the Thomas Square neighborhood, a short drive or bike ride south of Forsyth Park and close to the restaurants on 37th Street.
