About
Isle of Hope grew in the 1840s and 1850s as a summer retreat where Savannah families escaped the city's heat and mosquitoes. Its historic district curls around a horseshoe bend in the Skidaway River.
Bluff Drive runs along the riverbank, with Greek Revival, Victorian, Neoclassical and Craftsman houses on one side and marsh, docks and boats on the other. The Isle of Hope Marina, a stop on the Intracoastal Waterway, is the natural place to start a walk, especially around sunset. Wormsloe is less than a mile away.
Tips
- About 7 miles from downtown Savannah in a straight line, so plan it as a drive.
- This is viewed from the street: please respect the residents and the property.
- Check hours locally before visiting.
